SHAME & GUILT: THE INVISIBLE CHAINS HOLDING YOU BACK

How many times have you told someone – or even yourself – “Shame on you”? But would you ever say it again if you realised what you’re truly saying is “I don’t accept you”?

Shame is the lowest of all emotions – it whispers that something is fundamentally wrong with us. It reflects how we see ourselves, how we interact, and how we shrink away from fully owning our worth.

For generations, the heaviest burden women carry is the shame tied to body image, while men wrestle with the shame of appearing weak – physically, mentally, or emotionally. This isn’t accidental; it’s deeply ingrained conditioning inherited through paratactical system. It fuels billion-dollar industries, from beauty to luxury cars, all thriving on the collective belief that we aren’t enough.

And this is only part of the chain.

We pour endless energy into self-improvement – degrees, promotions, gym memberships, skincare routines – yet, deep down, the doubt remains: Do I deserve this? Am I attractive enough? Smart enough? Successful enough?

But the truth is, shame will never be healed by anything external. It was created inside us, and that’s exactly where the way out begins.

And guilt? Oh, it’s shame’s most loyal companion. Even if you believe you’re okay (spoiler: no one truly does), guilt will find a way to remind you that you’ve done something wrong.

Ever forced yourself to go out when all you wanted was a quiet night in – just so your friends wouldn’t be upset? That’s guilt stealing your peace.

And if you do honour yourself and stay home, suddenly a new guilt kicks in – your friends feel abandoned, you feel responsible, and now you’re apologising, promising to “make it up to them.” Is there ever an end to this?

That guilt had its purpose when we were children – it helped us navigate relationships and stay within expectations. But in adulthood, it morphs into self-sabotage, keeping us from living authentically, respecting our needs, and standing up for ourselves.

Your way out… starts here.

Join me for a shamelessly unapologetic evening of self-discovery at an upcoming lecture on June 17th at Impact Hub Zagreb.

You will learn to:

  • Understand the origins of shame and how it shapes men and women differently
  • Break free from shame by uncovering the beliefs that fuel it and shifting toward self-acceptance
  • Distinguish between healthy vs. harmful guilt – and stop carrying guilt that isn’t yours
  • Transform guilt from a learned response into a conscious choice

This interactive lecture + Q&A will be in Croatian, and as it’s the last event before summer break, you’re invited to stay afterward for mingling and catch-ups.
